Plate Histrionics: South Carolina's Bauer Rails Against 'Christian' Car-Tag Decision

When it comes to church-state separation, South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer just doesn't have a clue.

That's never been more apparent than it was yesterday. After a federal judge ruled against a legislature-mandated "Christian" license plate, Bauer carried on in a way that made me think he not only failed to read the court's opinion, but that he also doesn't   understand the principle of basic fairness. Creche Clash: Religious Right Launches Another Bogus Persecution Claim

Yesterday was the 350th anniversary of the hanging of two Quakers by the Puritan establishment in Massachusetts Bay Colony.

William Robinson and Marmaduke Stevenson had come from England in 1656 to escape religious persecution. But on Oct. 27, 1659, they became the first Quakers in America to be executed because of their religious beliefs.

Holy Book Boondoggle: Pennsylvania Legislators Get Free Bibles At Swearing-In

In these hard economic times, it seems that our lawmakers would want to make the best of our public funds.

For the Pennsylvania General Assembly, that seems to include spending $13, 700 on a stack of holy books for state legislators. Read more

Plate Hate: South Carolina Rally Consigns Separationist Clergy To Hell

Things got ugly last night in Greer, S.C.

More than 400 people gathered at People's Baptist Church to protest a federal district court's decision to stop the production of a "Christian" license plate that would have featured a cross superimposed on a stained glass window with the words "I Believe." The DMV will decide by the end of the week whether they will appeal the district court's decision. Read more
