Houses of worship and other religious agencies that do not accept tax funds have the right to hire only members of their own faith for certain positions. Secular employers, however, must abide by federal civil rights laws. They may not discriminate on the basis of religion. Private companies have no right to require that employees take part in religious events as a condition of employment. Broadly speaking, private employers should make reasonable accommodations to employees’ religious needs.

I Went To The Museum Of The Bible On Saturday, And Here Is What I Saw

If you were anywhere near Washington, D.C., over the weekend, you probably heard about the grand opening of the Museum of the Bible – the $500-million facility funded largely by the evangelical Christian Green family that runs the Hobby Lobby craft store chain.

The Rev. Barry Lynn, AU’s executive director who will retire next week, was invited to tour the museum on Saturday, and I tagged along. I came away with mixed feelings about the place.
