Serbian Leader Overturns Ban On Evolution In Public Schools

A decision by Serbia’s education minister to yank evolution from the public schools was quickly reversed by the prime minister.

In early September, Education Minister Ljiljana Colic said her Christian beliefs had prompted her order banning the country’s largely secular public school system from teaching evolution.

According to Canada’s Ottawa Citizen, the education minister’s order would eventually allow for evolution to be taught again in the public schools provided creationism was also taught during the lessons on the origins of the universe. “Darwinism is a theory as dogmatic as the one which says God created the first man,” Colic said.

The education minister’s action sparked an uproar in the country, according to the Agence France Presse.
