Jerry Falwell Jr., son of the famous TV preacher, Falwell Jr. now serves as chancellor of Liberty University. Falwell mimics his father’s extreme views and hews to extremely conservative positions on social issues. He is also highly partisan. He used Liberty University materials to endorse Mike Huckabee for president in 2008, sparking an Americans United complaint to the IRS.
In 2009, Falwell banned a student-run Democratic club from Liberty until pressure from the media and outside groups forced him to relent. Under Falwell Jr., the Falwell empire has become even more aggressive in attacking church-state separation, joining forces with a Religious Right legal group called Liberty Counsel.
