Host chapter:

A Teacher and a Preacher: A discussion about the history of vouchers and secular education

Thursday, March 30, 6:30-8:00pm

Orange County Library, 137 W Margaret Lane, Hillsborough

There is a plan to privatize and dismantle public schools. The narrative that schools are failing plays along with the current agenda of the religious right’s agenda to create a Christian Nation by destroying secular education and directly funding religious indoctrination. “School Choice” perpetuates distrust between neighbors and feeds racial divides. “Choice” has become the new code word for re-segregating public schools .

Is the current NC legislature moving to dismantle public schools all together? School vouchers, being offered as “Opportunity Scholarships,” are siphoning millions to religious indoctrination, and now a national bill has been introduced to give vouchers and tax credits directly to parents effectively defunding public education.

Hear more and participate in a conversation about what we can do for North Carolina’s children.

Presenters are Allison Mahaley, a veteran of public education turned political activist, and Rollin Russell, a retired United Church of Christ Minister.
